Dr. Gail Armstrong-Hall, Troy MI

Nominated by her daughter, Jackie Ziegler of Clinton Twp, MI

My mother is a remarkable woman; she is also extraordinary, evolutionary and inspiring. From the time I was born she has been influencing my life and those around her. When she was pregnant with me she was climbing rocks in the desert looking for fossils because her hobby was paleontology. Growing up with her, my life was exciting, educational and very fulfilling. From Mt. Rushmore at the age of 3, to the Grand Canyon at age 10, I would follow my Mom anywhere. When I got old enough we actually went on fossil digs together! I look up to my mom and her many accomplishments, although she likes to say her best accomplishment was “me”. Only listing these accomplishments will not do them justice but there are so many that are worth divulging. My mom is a native to the area, she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Science Education from Wayne State University in only four years!! Then she did part time work at the Cranbrook Museum, the Chicago Museum of Natural history, and N.A.S.A. - all while maintaining her dream job as a 7th grade science teacher at Larson Middle School in Troy. In 1997, I graduated from high school and she got her Doctorate in Science Administration. Throughout her career and life my mom has visited so many places, like: England, Scotland, Japan, China, Germany and Australia. I ask her why she goes to all these places, and she says, “for the generations of children that I teach and can’t go there, I can bring a piece back with me and share it with them.” Because my mom is selfless, and is always putting the children of today and tomorrow ahead of everything else, she is a “remarkable” woman in my eyes.
